What Is SidePlate?

SidePlate's® patented connection technologies offer a full spectrum of integrated connection specialty applications, including a diverse set of structural framing configurations and design environments for SMF, OMF and IMF.

SidePlate's Moment Frames, Eccentric Braced Frames (EBF) and Braced Dual Systems (which combines Steel Moment Frames [SMF] with Special Concentric Braced Frames systems[SCBF]) address the heightened design challenges of the 21st century, including the threat of terrorist bomb blasts.

Moment Frame Systems

SureFrame™
  • Uniaxial beam-to-column moment connection system for both one- and two-sided connections
  • SMF, IMF and OMF design applications
  • Standard two-sided connection ideally suited for terrorist bomb blast "missing column" scenario
  • Provides defined beam-to-beam continuity link that acts independently of the disturbed and failed column mitigating progressive floor collapse using catenary action
  • Other conventional post-Northridge connections such as RBS ('dogbone'), WUF-W and SlottedWeb™, remain fundamentally vulnerable to progressive floor collapse

  • Ideal for providing the required extra stiffness needed to combine a steel moment frame superstructure with a base isolated foundation system.
 
 
SureBent™
  • Uniaxial moment connection upgrade system developed for variable-depth beam(s) and column(s)
  • Economically upgrades blast resistance of pre-engineered steel frame buildings subjected to both accidental and malevolent explosion
  • Designed for SMF design applications for both new and retrofit construction
  • Upgrades the original steel frame capacity by three times
 

Brace Dual Systems

SureBrace™
  • Features common side plates for concentrically connecting both beam(s) and brace(s) to the same wide flange or built-up box column
  • All field-bolted brace connections use high-strength twist-off bolts with oversize bolt holes for increased erection speed and efficiency
  • SCBF and SMF combination increases global frame system ductility and stiffness with a corresponding reduction in design base shear of at least 17% over a solely SCBF system, resulting in significant additional cost savings.

  • Features all of the SureBrace attributes as well as the advantages found in the SureFrame2 biaxial configuration
